The Vipa 300S Speed7 PLCs are said to be the fastest PLCs in the world that support Step7 from Siemens, and are suitable for centralised and decentralised automation applications.

Said to operate at speed up to 30 times faster than comparable PLCs, the Vipa 300S allows users to significantly reduce their process times, resulting in productivity improvements and cost savings.

All of the Vipa 300S PLCs are equipped as standard with an Ethernet interface for PU/OP communications, enabling easy and cost-effective connection to other Ethernet devices.

They come in a range of high-speed processors, with integrated Ethernet connectivity and scalable memory configurations that can be flexibly and economically matched to the exact requirements of the application.

The 300S range offers high performance, with minimum cycle time of 100us.

Fully supporting the Siemens Step7 instruction set and with scalable memory from 32kB to 8MB, they provide users with improved productivity and versatility benefits over comparable PLCs.

The Speed7 PLC has been designed for general-purpose and time-critical automation applications, with a processing capability of over 50,000 instructions in under 1ms.

Minimum processing times for bit operations are 14ns, word operations 14ns, fixed-point arithmetic 14ns and floating point arithmetic 84ns.

The DIN rail-mounted System 300S includes a range of Speed7 processors with real-time clock and a choice of 32kB, 64kB, 128kB, 512kB, 1MB and 2MB integrated and battery-backed memory configured as 50 per cent program and 50 per cent data.

This range offers a modular memory system, known as MCC (memory configuration card), which allows scalability for large and small automation projects.

Users purchase only the memory they require for their application and, if their requirements change, additional memory can be purchased without the need for any PLC hardware changes.

The memory can be expanded up to a maximum of 8MB.

This keeps costs to a minimum with the added advantage that the Speed7 PLC can be applied across a range of automation applications, from small standalone machines to full-scale automation systems, with the benefit that programmers do not need to learn or purchase a new software tool.

In addition to increasing memory, the swappable MCC is designed to offers user a convenient way to store source code, programs and firmware updates.

The Speed7 PLC range is available in various models, satisfying a range of requirements.

All 300S PLCs come with MPI, Ethernet PG/OP and Profibus DP-master/slave as standard, with certain PLCs also offering integrated CP343 TCP/IP.

The Profibus DP-master/slave port can be switched to serial communication protocols, including Modbus.

As all 300S PLCs come supplied with an Ethernet port built in as standard, when used in conjunction with the Vipa HMIs and Teleservice remote maintenance modems, user are offered a cost-effective and powerful connectivity platform, allowing communication with all devices connected to the Ethernet bus.

The Vipa PLCs are packaged in DIN-rail mounting, as well as PCI-board-based versions.

Peripheral cards for I/O, fieldbus and power supplies can be selected from a range of modules.

Many of the Vipa modules are interchangeable/pin-compatible with the Siemens S7-300 range.

Offering hardware pin compatibility with Siemens S7-300 systems and Step7 programming compatibility, this allows modules from both companies to be freely mixed to achieve higher performance for demanding applications at a competitive cost.

Compatibility with Siemens Step7 extends to SFCs and OBs, meaning the user’s cost of change to switch to this faster system is kept to a minimum.

Programming is possible with languages such as LAD, FBD, STL, SCL, CFC and Graph7 – either using Step7 from Siemens, or Vipa’s own software tool, WinPLC7.

In addition to the standard serial bus, on certain models, Vipa also offers an ‘ultra-fast’ parallel bus known as the Vipa Speed Bus.

This accommodates Vipa’s range of modules, such as fast Profibus-DP, Interbus-Master, CANopen-Master/Slave, CP 343 Ethernet, and high-speed digital and analogue modules for precise control requirements.

Analogue Inputs are scanned at 100uS, with digital I/O being scanned at 2.5uS.

This dual bus system will allow for up to 32 modules on the serial bus in combination with 16 high-speed modules on the parallel bus (all on one rack), resulting in a versatile and flexible automation platform.

Vipa’s PLC products include the System 100V, 200V, 300S and 500S – all of which support programming in Step7 from Siemens.

This offers the user an easy way to scale up or down the product range, without having to change programming environments.

A range of HMIs and other automation products is also available.

The latest addition to the range is the SLIO remote I/O system, offering a modular design and fast back-plane bus.

Other products include Remote Maintenance Teleservice Modems, S5-S7 Conversion Cards and the Profibus Connectors with in-built fault diagnostic LEDs.

All products come with a 24-month warranty period.
