Pilz Automation Technology has launched additional base units for its PNOZmulti Mini range of configurable safety relays that are claimed to enable the fast, easy connection of communication and safe-link modules, as well as contact expansion modules.

With a width of 45mm, the PNOZmulti Mini provides panel space saving in all areas of manufacturing and process control, including CNC machining centres, machine tools, presses, packaging machines, injection-moulding machines, automotive robot cells and metal processing, the company claims.

The PNOZ mm0.1p and PNOZ mm0.2p base units are available in addition to the existing PNOZ mm0p non-expandable base unit and these can be expanded using safe outputs, communication modules and/or safe link modules, which Pilz says increase safety-input capacity and safety-related data transmission between interconnected base units.

For applications requiring decentralised wiring of safety sensor inputs, such as light curtains, mechanical interlock switches and coded magnetic switches, the PNOZ mml2p can be used with either of the new PNOZmulti Mini bases to connect to new IP67 input modules, known as Pilz Distributed Periphery PDP67.

Key specifications

  • Two safe-link options — added or built in
  • PNOZ mm0.1p is for use with additional safe-link module PNOZ mml1p to interconnect multiple base units
  • PNOZ mm0.2p achieves the same, but with an integrated safe-link interface in the same 45mm housing
  • Up to 16 PDP67 modules can be connected to a single base via four multi-link modules
  • Each connected safety sensor can be addressed and diagnosed separately
  • Safe-link modules are designed up to PL e in accordance with BS EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL CL 3 in accordance with BS EN 62061
  • PNOZmulti Configurator aids base-unit configuration
  • PNOZmulti Mini base units provide 20 safe inputs
  • Up to eight of these inputs can be set as standard outputs in the PNOZmulti Configurator
  • Offers four safe semiconductor outputs and four test-pulse outputs
  • Up to 40 per cent reduction in time and costs in all engineering phases
  • PNOZ mm0.1p and PNOZ mm0.2p base units are expandable on the left-hand side by using up to four safe-link modules
  • Output expansion is achieved on the right-hand side using the existing range of Pilz’s PNOZsigma expansion modules
