Polymer slewing ring bearings from Igus have been designed to replace ball-bearing-type rotary tables or systems and can be used in sectors including medical, measuring technology and foundries.

The Iglidur PRT slewing ring bearings are ready-to-fit solutions that require no lubrication or maintenance and are usually used in pivoting applications.

Iglidur PRT slewing ring bearings are described as tough yet lightweight and are corrosion free.

The sliding parts are made of the tribo-optimised special material Iglidur J.

The design of the slewing rings exploits the advantages of the tried-and-tested Iglidur polymer plain bearing range, according to Igus.

All the housing parts are made of aluminium (316 stainless steel versions are also available), the Iglidur sliding parts run on hard anodised aluminium, and all connecting screws are made of stainless steel.

The slewing rings are said to be very rigid, simple to fit, wear resistant and the maintenance-free sliding parts can be easily replaced.

They are available ex-stock within 24 hours in seven sizes, either as the tough standard version (design 01) or as the 200g lightweight and low-cost design (design 02).

Manual clamp, drive plate and spacer rings are available as accessories.

In addition, special solutions are available ex-stock, such as Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compliant slewing ring bearings (sliding parts made of Iglidur A180) and slewing rings that are chemical resistant and can be used at up to 180C (using the Iglidur H1 bearing material).

The application spectrum of the lubricant-free polymer round table bearings is varied and ranges from clean applications found in medical or measuring technology to environments with a high level of soiling, such as in foundries.

Quite often, the application involves pivoting (forwards, backwards and in intermittent use) at assembly stations or in-house transport conveyor systems such as indexing tables and jig design.

Many of these applications are manually driven.

Igus said it is observing a trend towards systems with individual connection possibilities for drives through gear wheels.

For these applications, the company can supply design 01 with a gear wheel fitted.

The smallest Iglidur rotary tables have inner diameters from 20mm; the large versions have a diameter of 200mm and now 300mm in the latest version.

The largest size, known as PRT-01-300, is designed for greater loads and torques and can cope with an axial-static load of 15 tonnes.

Maintenance-free applications are found to be particularly useful in heavy machinery design and solar technology applications.
