Power Integrations has launched its latest SCALE-2+ dual-IGBT driver core, the 2SC0435T2G1-17, which is described as the most compact product in its power range with a footprint of only 57.2 x 51.6mm and a height of just 20mm.

SCALE-2+ dual-IGBT driver core

The SCALE-2+ technology enables soft shutdown (SSD) to be implemented in the event of a short circuit without requiring additional components. This is particularly beneficial in applications with low stray inductance where full advanced active clamping (AAC) may not be required.

If desired, the core can also provide full AAC. Designed to drive all standard 1,200V and 1,700V IGBTs, the 2SC0435T2G1-17 driver core features an embedded paralleling capability to simplify inverter design at high power ratings. Multi-level topologies are also supported.

The 2SC0435T2G1-17 combines a complete two-channel driver core with all components required for driving, such as a galvanic isolated DC/DC converter, short-circuit protection, AAC or SSD and under-voltage lockout on both the primary and secondary sides.

Key features and specifications

  • An EMC-robust design enables safe and reliable operation in harsh industrial environments.
  • Each of the two output channels is electrically isolated from the primary side and the secondary channel.
  • An output current of ±35A peak and 4W drive power at 85ºC is available per channel and the turn-on voltage is regulated to maintain a stable 15V regardless of the output power level.
  • The dual-IGBT driver core features a connector pin length of 3.1mm, making it suitable for PCB thickness of 2mm.
  • Devices are RoHS compatible and UL508C and UL 60950-1 recognised.
  • Creepage and clearances fulfill IEC60664-1 for reinforced insulation OV2 and PD2.

Power Integrations

Power Integrations is the leading supplier of high-voltage integrated circuits used in energy-efficient power conversion. The company’s innovative technology enables compact, energy-efficient power supplies in a wide range of electronic products, in AC-DC, DC-DC and LED lighting applications. Since its introduction in 1998, Power Integrations’ EcoSmartä energy-efficiency technology has saved an estimated $4.5 billion of standby energy waste and prevented millions of tons of CO2 emissions. The company’s Green Room web site provides a wealth of information about “energy vampires” and the issue of standby energy waste, along with a comprehensive guide to energy-efficiency standards around the world. Reflecting the environmental benefits of EcoSmart technology, Power Integrations is included in clean-technology stock indices sponsored by the Cleantech Group (Amex: CTIUS) and Clean Edge (Nasdaq: CELS).
