Powersolve has announced a series of high-efficiency 250W AC-DC power supplies that feature commercial and medical safety approvals.

The LPS200-M series from Emerson Network Power are compact open-frame designs measuring 7.6cm x 12.7cm (3 x 5in) with a height of 3.9cm (1.5in).

They have a typical full load efficiency of 88 per cent and a power density in excess of 0.66W/in.

The supplies are primarily intended for use in information technology equipment (ITE) and light industrial systems, as well as for equipment intended for non-patient contact and non-patient critical use in low power medical, dental and laboratory applications.

LPS200-M power supplies feature a universal 90-264V AC input and can also operate from 120-300V DC.

The series comprises two models: the LPS203-M, which has a 12V DC main output, and the LPS205-M, which has a 24V DC main output.

The 12V model can deliver up to 10.3A continuously with convection cooling, or up to 20.8A continuously with 30 CFM forced air cooling.

The 24V model is rated at 5.2A continuous with convection cooling and 10.4A continuous with 30 CFM forced air cooling.

The main output of each model can be adjusted up to 10 per cent either side of nominal, and is tightly regulated to within +/-2 per cent for all line and load conditions.

Remote sense facilities are provided to compensate for a drop of up to 0.5V between the output terminals and the load.

Both models feature an isolated 12V DC fan output capable of delivering up to 1A regulated to within +/-5 per cent.

Active power factor correction is employed to minimise input harmonic current distortion and ensure compliance with the international EN61000-3-2 standard.

LPS200-M series supplies have a power factor of 0.99 typical.

Both models have a maximum safety-ground leakage current of 275uA, and have a main output hold-up time of 16ms minimum when fed with a 120V AC input and delivering 250W of output power.

The power supplies are protected against over voltage, over temperature and short-circuit conditions, and feature a ‘power fail’ signal for remote monitoring purposes, which will change state at least 6ms before the main output loses regulation.

They have a full load ambient operating temperature range of 0 to 50C without de-rating and can cold start from temperatures as low as -20C.

Between 50 and 70C, the output should be de-rated by 2.5 per cent per C.

Emerson Network Power’s LPS200-M series AC-DC power supplies comply with EN55022-B and FCC part 15 Level B EMC standards for conducted noise and meet all applicable immunity standards, including EN61000-4-2, -3, -4, -5, -6, -8 and -11 levels 3.

The power supplies carry a wide set of safety approvals, including UL/TUV/CSA 60950-1 and non-patient contact and non-patient critical 60601-1.
