Micro-Epsilon’s Scancontrol 2700 laser profile scanners and OptoNCDT 2200 laser displacement sensors have been supplied to Qsigma for measuring surface profiles and the position of rotary pistons.

Qsigma is a manufacturer of 3D measuring machines based in Germany and has created a product that measures the surface of pistons for comparison with a target shape.

For recording the shape of the piston’s surface, a Scancontrol 2700 laser profile scanner with a measuring range of 50mm is used.

An OptoNCDT 2200 laser displacement sensor — which has a 200mm measuring range — is then used to determine the position of the component.

  • The Scancontrol 2700 can be traversed vertically using a linear motion system in order to measure larger components.
  • The OptoNCDT 2200 collects 10,000 distance values per second and is able to operate at a resolution of 3µm.
  • The laser displacement sensor has good signal stability, without any signal averaging.
  • Its digital output can be combined with an IF2008 PCI card from Micro-Epsilon for synchronising multiple sensors.
