Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products has introduced additional colours to its Quadrant Radel PPSU (polyphenylsulphone) life-science grade (LSG) stock shapes aimed at medical device manufacturers.

All Quadrant Radel PPSU LSG stock shapes are certified biocompatible according to ISO 10993, giving designers the confidence that their finished products will successfully pass testing while at the same time allowing for faster product development at reduced costs.

In addition, Quadrant offers lot traceability of its LSG stock shapes, guaranteeing consistency in formulations.

Standard colours include black, natural (off-white), blue, green, yellow, grey, brown, rust-coloured and red, while custom colours can be produced on request.

Quadrant PPSU LSG stock shapes are available globally as rods and sheets in various sizes, allowing manufacturers to optimise yield with minimised waste.

The company’s engineering and service capabilities also include design and production of finished parts.

‘Our LSG range focuses on two essential benefits for our customers: the testing of our stock shapes to meet USP class V, VI, or ISO 10993 certification, and the traceability of our stock shapes,’ said Dr Stephan Glander, global director – research and market development at Quadrant EPP.

Typical applications for coloured PPSU include: orthopaedic trial implants; instrument handles; ferrules for endoscopic instruments; radiation therapy and brachytherapy apparatus components; sterilisation trays; trays for trauma products; biotechnology and laboratory equipment; and analytical and diagnostic equipment components.

Quadrant PPSU is a tough thermoplastic with a heat deflection temperature of about 205C.

Quadrant said the product offers superior resistance to common sterilisation techniques compared with other engineering plastics and is extremely resistant to repeated autoclaving sterilisation, withstanding more than 1,000 cycles without significant loss of properties.

Other material properties include: high resistance to gamma radiation, excellent dimensional stability and very high impact strength and good machinability.

Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products

Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (QEPP) is the world’s leading manufacturer of semi-finished products made from general engineering and high-performance plastics. Quadrant also designs, develops and produces finished parts and solutions for a broad variety of applications in many different industries globally. Its product range extends from polyamide (PA), polyacetal (POM) and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) to high-performance materials such as fluoroplastics and polybenzimidazole (PBI), which features temperature resistance to over 425C (800F) while maintaining total dimensional stability. The semi-finished products are machined or thermoformed and used in a variety of industries ranging from electronics through packaging machinery to chemical processing for applications where properties such as non-stick characteristics, abrasion resistance, dimensional stability, chemical and acid resistance or purity are extremely important.

Quadrant’s global teams of product development and applications engineers provide their customers with comprehensive advisory services. The best individual solution is sought for every customer requirement – from the choice of suitable material to optimum design of the finished product and machining of the most sophisticated materialsin state-of-the-art Technology Centres. Quadrant maintains a marketing and sales organization which is capable of pursuing new developments rapidly and efficiently worldwide. Quadrant focuses on growing markets, though many end users operate worldwide and have global requirements for materials and applications consulting.
