Razorform Tools has introduced an indexable insert-style broaching tool for use in CNC lathes with locking spindles.

The system provides an efficient, cost-effective way to broach keyways ranging from 1/8in to 1/2in on a CNC lathe or a vertical machining centre (VMC).

The broaching system is said to save setup time by never having to remove the tool from the turret when changing out the insert.

It also increases efficiency with the TiN-coated, double-sided, micro-grain carbide inserts.

The TiN-coated carbide insert lasts longer than brazed carbide inserts or slivers of carbide, according to the company.

The tool design also enables the insert to be removed and rotated or replaced while the tool remains locked in the turret, saving 10-15 minutes of setup time re-zeroing the machine.

The interaction of the tool and the proprietary design of the insert and insert pocket provide stability during the cut, reducing chatter and extending insert life.

The removable carbide inserts mean that one tool will last forever, replacing only the inserts as the user cuts more parts.

Razorform Tools currently offers nine sizes of broaching tools and inserts from 0.127 (for a 1/8in keyway) to 0.502 (for a 1/2in keyway).
