CIP Technologies has launched the R-SOA-EAM-1550 – a device that integrates a semiconductor optical amplifier with a reflective electro-absorption modulator – at the ECOC 2009 conference in Vienna.

The R-SOA-EAM-1550 is said to combine high optical gain with high-speed modulation capability.

The device is said to offer high output power, low power consumption and low sensitivity-to-input polarisation, making it suitable for DWDM transmission at speeds of 10Gb/s over fibre-optic links of up to 80km.

The device is ‘colourless’ and a single device may be used across the entire C-band.

The R-SOA-EAM-1550 also incorporates standardised design features to make it compatible with the CIP Hyboard photonic integration platform.
