Renishaw’s Resolute absolute optical encoder can be used with the Panasonic range of Minas A5 drivers in sectors such as electronics assembly, semiconductor processing and flat-panel display manufacturing, for applications including wafer dicing and chip packaging.

The encoder is compatible with the Panasonic serial communications protocol in linear encoder formats and, according to the company, it allows axes to run smoothly, with less vibration, for longer periods of time.

It reports the positions of axes immediately upon being switched on and prior to movement, and allows the machine to maintain control in the event of a power loss. The Resolute’s scale is arranged as a single track of code and the unit continually monitors position to ensure the integrity of output data.

Additionally, the encoder features a resolution of 1nm, works at up to 100m/s and has good electro-magnetic immunity, as well as being CE approved and RoHS/WEEE compliant.

The range of Resolute encoders is also available with other protocols — such as Fanuc and Biss — and in rotary format.
