Renishaw is set to highlight a range of process control technologies designed to help tackle the increasing drive to lean manufacturing at the EMO Hannover 2013 exhibition, which is due to take place in Hannover, Germany, on 16–21 September.

The company — which will be found in Hall 6, Stand B38 — will present technologies for tasks ranging from pre-process machine calibration to online and offline post-process measurement.

New technologies include a high-speed analogue contact scanning system for CNC machine tools, a range of products for the measurement of aerospace blades, a range of modular fixtures for metrology applications and a long-range laser encoder.

The latest gauging software, additive manufacturing technologies and position encoder systems will also be on show.

Sprint high-speed analogue contact scanning system

  • The Sprint contact scanning system incorporates a new generation of on-machine analogue scanning technology that will reportedly deliver a step-change in the benefits of process control, enabling fast and accurate form and profile data capture from both prismatic and complex 3D components.
  • For blade manufacture, the Sprint system is designed for blade tip refurbishment and root blending applications.
  • For multi-task machining applications, the Sprint machine tool scanning system offers users new process control capabilities, including repeatable diameter measurement cycles.
  • Additional functionality offered by the Sprint system provides a rapid health check of a CNC machine tool’s linear and rotary axes in seconds, making it possible to implement a daily machine monitoring regime with little or no operator involvement.

Blade measurement and analysis tools

  • Renishaw will show a developing range of hardware and software products for co-ordinate measuring machines that are specifically designed to aid the measurement and manufacturing of aerospace blades.
  • All products complement the Revo five-axis measurement system and include Apexblade planning software for Revo sweep scanning and DMIS programming, Modus aerofoil analysis for the calculation and reporting of blade section profile and aerofoil characteristics and Surfitblade to aid reverse engineering of the complete airfoil.

Metrology fixtures

  • Renishaw has developed a range of modular fixturing designed specifically for co-ordinate measuring machines, vision systems and Equator gauging systems.
  • The new range offers a choice of baseplates and components available in M4, M6 and M8 thread sizes and can be utilised for measurement applications across industries such as aerospace, automotive and medical.

HS20 laser encoder

  • EMO 2013 will see the launch of an updated successor to Renishaw’s HS10 long-range laser encoder, which, with a range of up to 60m, is suitable for applications on large machine tools for the aerospace industry.
  • This is a ‘drop-in’ replacement for the existing HS10 product, essential for existing users to minimise installation issues.
  • Inside, the product is totally revised, using many components from Renishaw’s current XL-80 calibration laser. PCBs use the latest surface-mount technology for greater robustness and reliability.

Sensors for co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs) are an industry standard, from basic touch-trigger probes through to automated stylus and probe changers, motorised indexing probe heads, and revolutionary five-axis measurement systems.

Machine probes for CNC machine tools allow automated tool setting, workpiece set-up, in-cycle gauging and part inspection. Products include laser tool setters, contact tool setters, tool breakage detectors, touch probes and high accuracy inspection probes.

For motion control, Renishaw supplies laser encoders, optical linear encoders, optical angle encoders, optical rotary encoders, magnetic rotary encoders, magnetic chip encoders and magnetic linear encoders.

To analyse the static and dynamic performance of position-critical motion systems, Renishaw’s laser interferometer and environmental compensation system offers a linear measurement accuracy of 0.5 ppm, readings of up to 50 kHz and a linear measurement speed of up to 4 m/s, with a linear resolution of 1nm.

Renishaw’s Raman spectroscopy products exploit the Raman effect to identify and characterise the chemistry and structure of materials. A diverse range of analytical applications include pharmaceutical, forensic science, nanotechnology, biomedical and semiconductors.
