Hepcomotion’s PRT2 precision ring and track system helps to solve circular motion problems.

According to the company, many customers are now specifying the new range of single-edge rings with larger gear sizes across the full width of the ring.

These rings are enabling customers to drive at higher speeds, thanks to the excellent driving forces being applied.

Size for size against the previous double-edge gear-driven ring, the increase in driving force can be as high as 8x depending upon the pinion selected.

Single-edge rings are available with diameters measuring up to 874mm; compact and easy to install, they can be driven either with the gear on the inside or the outside.

Orders are being seen across the whole size range but especially in the sizes under the 500mm-diameter version.

Some customers are also choosing Hepcomotion’s expanded range of ring segments, now available in 13 diameters measuring up to 1.5m.

Produced from double-edge rings, typical applications can be seen on tool-changing devices, or any application where movement through an arc is preferable.

Segment angles are often 90deg but can be 45deg, 60deg, 120deg and 180deg.

The ring is cut to suit.

When a segment is linked to a straight slide, a hockey-stick-shape track system can be produced, providing a cost-effective method of achieving combined rotary and linear movement.

This concept is now in use by a German machine tool manufacturer as the guidance element in its tool-changing systems.

The Hepcomotion ring and track system is often used by designers requiring continuous or indexing motion, but the new PRT2 option of offering additional drive components has led to more enquiries, according to the company.

By making available individual components from the complete driven track system (DTS), customers are able to customise their design while using standard components.

Drive scrolls, carriage locking systems for workstations, support beams, end mounting plates and drive pulleys can be incorporated into most customers’ designs.

Designing a unique engineering principle and making it a commercial success is quite an accomplishment.  Developing that concept and embracing complementary technologies to the point where the business becomes a world leader in its field takes that achievement into a different league.  HepcoMotion has achieved both and in 2009 celebrates 40th year of trading.

Today HepcoMotion is one of the world’s foremost innovators and manufacturers of linear motion technology.  And this can be attributed to the important tenet – continued investment in its people processes and products.  This has allowed the company to grow even at times of economical difficulty.

Although its range of individual, linear motion products remains an important part of its business the growth area for HepcoMotion in recent years is in specials and assemblies.  Almost one fifth of its shop floor space is devoted to assembly and the company has invested heavily in flexible manufacturing to ensure that even last minute changes can be accommodated to customer specification.

Constantly re-assessing its strengths against changing market demands continues to provide HepcoMotion with the momentum for business growth.  The culture of ongoing investment has certainly worked well throughout its first 40 years and will continue to underpin its business in the decades to come.
