Rofin-Baasel offers a range of fibre lasers — including the Powerline F series, the Starfemto series, the Starfiber series and the FL series — for precision material processing in a range of manufacturing environments.

The Powerline F series offers 20–50W power from the specially optimised diode-pumped, Q-switched fibre laser sources. It is suitable for the general-purpose marking and ablation of layers in photovoltaic and semiconductor applications.

The Starfemto ultra-short pulse fibre lasers allow medical devices made from virtually any material to be ablated successfully. The laser source produces laser pulses shorter than one picosecond.

The Starfiber lasers are suitable for welding, cutting and scribing applications. They provide nominal power ranges of 100W to 600W and can be operated in both pulsed or continuous-wave mode.

FL series lasers are suitable for laser cutting and laser welding applications. The wavelength emitted, in the range of 1µm, achieves high absorption in many materials.

Fibre lasers in detail

Powerline F series lasers

  • These can be used to process almost all metals and polymeric plastics.
  • The diode-pumped laser source offers high diode life, providing several thousand operating hours with minimal maintenance requirements.

Starfemto series lasers

  • Applications include creating machine-readable codes for traceability without any heat-affected zone or collateral damage to surrounding material.
  • It is also possible to selectively remove layers of material without damage or delamination of underlying material.

Starfiber series lasers

  • Laser sources provide a small spot diameter, enabling high welding speeds to be achieved.
  • The lasers can be used for fine laser cutting in the medical device industry when processing implants and so on.
  • 100/200 OEM offers a short trigger-to-light time, which is particularly suitable for the laser cutting of thin-section sheets and tubular components such as stents.
  • The laser features a high peak pulse power over a wide frequency range; this peak pulse power is also available at high repetition rates of up to 170kHz.

FL series lasers

  • These can perform all common solid-state laser applications.
  • Utilising the multi-mode version, fibre optics of 50–800µm can be used.
  • The single-mode version produces beam quality in the range of ≤0.4 mm x mrad.
  • The compact version of the fibre laser is available as a practical system option; this version is offered as a single-mode laser with fibre optics of 20µm or as a multi-mode laser with fibre optics of 50µm.
  • Beam switches and energy-sharing modules are also available.
