At the Paris Air Show on 17–23 June 2013, Sandvik Coromant will showcase its cutting tools for aerospace materials including aluminium, nickel-based super alloys and CFRP composites.

The company has introduced an end mill aimed specifically at manufacturers engaged in the roughing of aluminium aero-frame components.

In addition, the Coromill Plura compression end mill for machining composite and metallic stack materials will feature on Sandvik Coromant’s stand.

Further, for manufacturers seeking improvements in the production of Ni/Co-based super alloys, titanium or stainless steels, the company will present the Corodrill R846 series of solid carbide drills.

Representatives and experts from Sandvik Coromant will be on-hand at Smart Hub B139 in Hall 4.

Products in depth

End mill for aluminium

  • When deployed in combination with a high-power spindle, the indexable insert milling cutter can achieve extremely high stability levels and metal removal rates in high-speed milling operations
  • Cutting edge position is assured by the precision of the insert seat interface
  • The end mill offers feed rates of up to 0.3mm/tooth

Coromill Plura compression end mill for composites

  • Combines positive and negative helix design to ‘compress’ the top and bottom of the component edge
  • The result is minimised opportunity for splintering — a common defect when machining CFRP

Corodrill R846 solid carbide drills for super alloys

  • Convex edge geometry, larger back taper and internal coolant supply optimise chip formation and hole quality
  • The consistent curve shape and protected corners deliver reliable and safe drilling processes for manufacturers producing high-value-added components
  • Cutting speed can be boosted by up to 100 per cent in aerospace machining applications such as turbine parts
  • The range has recently been extended and can now be offered in diameters from 3–16mm
