In addition to supplying cutting tools and tooling systems, Sandvik Coromant offers a range of added-value services that are designed to increase efficiency, profitability and knowledge in the field of metal cutting.

From an engineering perspective, Sandvik Coromant can help test new materials and find ways to shorten lead times and optimise processes. If a required tool is not standard, the company can engineer one or help find another smart solution that meets the end goal. Sandvik Coromant aims to help manufacturers reduce the time and cost of making components and to minimise the risk of expensive interruptions in production.

The company can help with tool selection, machine choice, clamping, coolant, programming and other strategic or technical considerations. At the company’s Application Centres and Productivity Centres, work can be undertaken to help customers find the optimum point where maximum productivity meets minimum cost.

After conducting a feasibility study, Sandvik Coromant presents a proposal for tool layout, application methods and machining strategies. In a process validation phase, the company simulates and verifies the process and provides training and detailed documentation. Finally, Sandvik Coromant implements the turnkey solution — complete and ready to use — at the customer’s facility.

Sandvik Coromant recently helped a major aerospace engine manufacturer reduce the machining time for a key component from 16 hours to 5.5 hours.

The company also offers a service called Machine Investment (MI). Before installing tools or equipment, time is spent on analysis and planning, working in close co-operation with the customer, the machine tool maker and the machine tool agent. During this period it is possible to highlight the ideal machine type and configuration, the best spindle interface, and whether advanced tooling solutions such as quick-change tools or high-pressure coolant can bring significant advantages, for example.

Many customers have been able to reduce the cost of producing a component after the Sandvik Coromant MI team presented alternative solutions for tools and programming. Some clients were even able to buy a less expensive machine than planned, while in other cases MI support accelerated machine payback by a full year.

In addition, the Sandvik Coromant logistics service will hone operations and reduce both costs and net working capital requirements. Ordering tools from the company’s online shop is easy and there is an electronic ordering system available for bigger orders. Electronic Data Interface can be integrated with customer systems to fully automate the purchasing process.
