Sandvik Coromant has announced that the Coromill 490, a versatile face and shoulder mill designed to cut tool costs and inventories, can be applied to stainless-steel machining.

Advanced grades GC2030, GC2040 and GC1030 with new geometry types are launched to complement existing insert choices for machining steel, hardened steel and cast-iron workpieces.

The inserts have sharp edge lines and produce cuts with burr-free profiles, making Coromill 490 the first mill to produce a true 90deg square shoulder cut without sharp steps.

This advanced tooling solution offers tighter component tolerances and smoother surfaces with no mismatch.

Coromill 345, the 45 face mill designed for machining steel and stainless steel, now has a full insert range for cast iron and a new geometry for finishing steel.

Cylindrical and Weldon shank cutters are also released.

Inserts with eight cutting edges make Coromill 345 suitable for machining operations that range from demanding roughing through to mirror-finishing applications.

The face mill optimises processes performed on a variety of machine tools, with cutters available in diameters ranging from 40 to 250mm.

Coromill 316, the first tool in Sandvik Coromant’s exchangeable-head milling family is now available in the 10-25mm diameter range.

An extended range of carbide milling heads include chamfering radius and corner-radius end mills.

Carbide shanks are also introduced to complement the existing steel-shank range.

The system of exchangeable head end mills with a threaded coupling combines high strength and accuracy.

The tool is based on Coromill Plura geometries and is available in PVD grade technology.

It provides the stability required for full-slot roughing through to precision finishing operations.

Coromill 300 is a positive round insert concept designed for low-power machines or difficult to machine materials.

A 20mm insert complements the existing range of 5-16mm.

With eight effective cutting edges and a maximum depth of cut of 8mm, Coromill 300 generates low cutting forces and little heat when machining with small depths of cut allowing higher feed rates.

Coromill 300 is suitable for a range of operations such as face milling, ramping, pocketing, and profiling and is available in a full range of geometries and grades, including GC1030, GC4240, GC1020, GC2030 and GC2040.
