Converteam has delivered its electrical power train system, including its 900V converter and a direct-drive Permanent Magnet Generator, to Schuler Pressen for use with its new SDD 100 wind turbine.

The 2.7 MW turbine, designed to comply with the stringent German 2009 EEG Renewable Energy Sources Act, will be installed in Germany and go into operation in early 2011.

It features a comprehensive grid fault ride-through system and power-factor control capability.

Converteam’s direct-drive Permanent Magnet Generator and its associated power converter are critical to the wind turbine’s performance and are based on the company’s designs enabling advanced power control, maximum resilience and minimum maintenance.

Suitable for wind turbines of up to 7MW, the 900V converter presents its client with benefits including: best-in-class power density for a low-voltage converter; increased efficiency of the whole system compared to a 690V equivalent; a three-level drive that optimises wave form and dynamic control; and the ability to keep low voltage while pushing for its maximum capability.
