The new Ormec XD Series of indexer servo drives from Inmoco provides motion control capabilities for applications such as conveyor control and pick-and-place labelling systems.

The XD Series, which is also suitable for flying shears, rotary knives, scanning systems, high-speed printing and part storage and retrieval, features a built-in motor wizard that functions with most types of servomotors, facilitating integration.

Each indexer servo drive also includes 32 unique motion profiles and comprehensive software tools, which can reduce setup times in complex applications from days to minutes, according to the company.

The built-in features of the XD Series allow it to support otherwise difficult application requirements, such as tension control, dual-loop feedback, registration and gearing.

The XD Series meets the requirements of demanding applications with 32 programmable motion profiles, which can be mapped to input/output (I/O) points (one or two functions per point); these are initiated via Modbus/TCP and can be chained or looped together.

The adaptable I/O, with 14 inputs and eight outputs, offers the flexibility to be mapped to change from position, velocity or torque modes during program execution.

In addition, motion can be synchronised with any supported machine I/O, enabling start, stop or trigger speed changes, with inputs at any point in the chain, and user-defined units for axis position speed and acceleration, further simplifying implementation.

By employing a human-machine interface (HMI) or optional Fieldbus communication, the servo indexer allows for motion parameter adjustments, remote commanded motion and real-time indexer status read capabilities.

Communication setups may be accomplished via USB or Ethernet connections, with Modbus/TCP, Ethernet/IP, Canopen and Profibus DP options.

XD Series integration is said to be quick and uncomplicated thanks to the built-in motor wizard, which simplifies non-standard motor integration and enables users to quickly commission unproven motors.

Once the program and motor data are loaded onto the indexer, configuration data is stored both in the indexer and on a removable memory card, facilitating software transfer, duplication requirements and hardware replacement needs.

Motionset, a set of Ormec software tools, backs up the XD Series and provides support for monitoring and optimising applications.

These software tools can reduce conventional setup efforts, using integrated predefined load-and-go application templates.

The XD Series is available in 115VAC, 230VAC and 460VAC input power versions, with continuous current ratings from 3A to 60A.
