Showers and Eyebaths Services has introduced a 2,500-litre safety tank shower for engineers and operatives working on site in hazardous areas in industries such as oil, gas and water. The shower gives 30 minutes of continuous tepid water drench time.

In exposed locations such as coastal regions or in remote areas there is a requirement for safety showers that are fit for purpose. Working out in the field, these units must be reliable. The flow of water should not be interrupted or should feed off a processing facility. If this cannot be achieved then a tank has to be fitted.

ANSI recommends that an emergency shower has to be capable of delivering a minimum of 75.7 litres per minute for 15 minutes. However, demands now being made by COSH (the control of substances hazardous to health) have increased from a drench time of between 20 and 30 minutes — 30 minutes being standard in the US.

Key features and benefits

  • The 2,500-litre tank shower has been developed especially for use in inhospitable and out-of-the-way environments as it provides additional water capacity if the tank cannot be refilled straight away.
  • With 30 minutes of guaranteed drenching, if a site has no mains water immediately available, depending on the risk, the shower has enough water for two people to use consecutively.
  • The GFTS range of tank showers can be fitted with a curtain and side/rear panels, to ensure the spray hits the user rather than blowing away.
  • Many other optional extras are available to suit specific site requirements including water level indicators and alarms.
  • The units are all highly visible and are manufactured from glass-reinforced plastic and stainless steel, which are corrosion-resistant materials, giving a long life and suitability for outside use.

Showers & Eyebaths Services is a global leader in the bespoke manufacture of emergency safety showers and eyebath/facewash equipment, providing solutions to employee safety while ensuring compliance with regulations is maintained.

Worldwide there is an ever-increasing demand made on the health, safety and welfare of employees as well as oil and petrochemical industries seeking more inhospitable and remote environments in which to extract natural resources. Therefore Showers & Eyebaths Services has developed the technology and specialist engineering skills to design and manufacture emergency showers that provide a guaranteed 15 minutes of tepid water as stipulated by ANSI Z358.1-2009 and that are ideal for external use from -20ºC to +40ºC. Its arctic units are GOST approved and are certified for temperatures ranging down to – 40ºC and up to +40ºC.

Importantly, water contained in the header tanks of the Showers & Eyebaths’ tank showers can be controlled at a nominal 17–18°C with its own robust heating element, keeping the water temperature to below the threshold of Legionella thereby eliminating its proliferation.

All products are designed to last 20 years, if they have been serviced and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

The company’s innovative approach to workforce safety and the demands made by industry worldwide is reflected in the diverse contracts the company is able to meet. From its UK head office it supplies to marine-based operations — including mega tankers and ships, onshore and offshore oil rigs, pharmaceutical and petrochemical, oil and gas fields, laboratories, schools and universities. The company also manufactures one of the only fully portable safety showers of its kind in the world which is being used extensively by the construction industry in particular due to the temporary nature of building and construction work.

The company’s employees have more than 100 years’ experience in the manufacture and design of safety showers, and provide full technical support. Its service department ensures units out in the field are maintained and operating effectively, as the company has built its reputation on the quality and performance of its products.
