Michael Siggins, publisher of Robotics Trends, presented the results of the ‘Latest Trends in the North American Consumer Robotics Market’ survey at the recent Innorobo Conference in Lyon, France.

The presentation was made to investors and financial analysts as part of the Robot Market Focus segment of the conference.

The findings are the result of information gathered via an online survey of home technology enthusiasts and reveal selection criteria on a variety of segments within the consumer robotics space, including: smart toys; educational robotics/hobby kits; hobbyist robotics; home-care/lawn-care robotics; home healthcare robotics; and personal robotics.

In addition, respondents were asked which of the above categories of consumer robots they currently use and which they plan to use within the next two years, revealing which robotics market segments will see the most growth.

Findings showed that home healthcare and personal robotics were the categories demonstrating the most promise for a growth surge, with educational robotics growing as well.

Respondents of the study were also asked to rate the importance of a variety of attributes for each consumer robotic category, as well as the amount they would be willing to pay for each category of robot.

‘We have found that the most important attributes of any consumer product are that they work as advertised, that they can withstand wear and tear and that the cost must not be prohibitive,’ said Siggins.
