Design Environmental’s Sigma range of liquid-nitrogen-cooled Halt/Hass chambers is specifically designed to interface with a multi-axis pneumatic vibration table.

Sigma chambers, which are CE marked, have an energy-efficient design and are able to withstand the rapid temperature cycling of the test item, which is introduced to cause different rates of expansion and contraction in the various components of the test item, thereby imparting stress and causing premature failures to improve the long-term reliability of the product under test.

The chamber is interfaced with a patented vibration table offering high-energy broadband random vibration with six degrees of freedom.

Combining the two environments provides an effective method of improving product reliability and reducing field failure costs, according to the company.

Vibration can be input during preselected temperature ramps or dwells or independently.

Key features include: vibration tables measuring 1.1 x 1.1m, 0.9 x 0.9m and 0.6 x 0.6m; simultaneous 6 DOF random vibration; a typical 100Grms 5-10,00Hz measure on the table surface Z axis; a repeatable vibration spectrum; 90 per cent of vibration energy in the 5-4,000Hz bandwidth; +/-1Grms following one minute of stabilisation; a temperature range of +200C to -100C; three chamber volumes to suit vibration tables; a rate of temperature change up to 80C/min; selectable control from air stream to product; a Windows-based interface for temperature/vibration control; data logging and analysis software; and variable high air velocity.
