The SMRT1 smart protective relay test set from Megger is designed to be able to test smart grids and installations that utilise the IEC 61850 substation bus. It is also suitable for testing older installations and legacy power plants.

The single-phase protective relay test instrument features the SMRT Power Box, which is designed to test protective relays used in conjunction with CTs having 1A and 5A secondaries.

The SMRT1 offers high output current, high output power for voltage and current outputs and high precision, according to Megger.

It can be controlled using a laptop or manually utilising the optional Smart Touch View Interface.

The instrument simulates high current faults and offers the precision needed for demanding applications.

Key features and specifications

  • The SMRT1 smart protective relay test set weighs 4kg.
  • It has one current output channel and one convertible channel that can be configured as either a voltage or current output.
  • The constant power output of the current amplifier produces a compliance voltage of 50Vrms at 4A (200VArms) and maintains 200VA output power up to 30A.
  • The SMRT1 current amplifier can deliver 30A continuous and up to 60A for short durations — this suits instantaneous over-current test applications.
  • The PowerVä voltage amplifier delivers a constant 150VA from 30V to 150V.
  • An Ethernet port can be used to interconnect multiple SMRT units.
  • The unit is supplied with AVTS advanced visual test software.
