Sodick is showing three wire machines – two entry-level wire machines and one high-efficiency water EDM machine – at its stand at IMTS in Chicago.

The two entry-level wire machines, the VZ300L and VZ500L, incorporate features such as linear motor drives with linear scales – a drive mechanism that maintains high speed and high response, while retaining initial positioning accuracy for years, said Sodick.

The compact VZ300L offers new EDM users machine reliability and performance, plus standard functions including Heart-NC on-board programming, advanced corner control, automatic float control, power supply with active control discharge technology and more.

The VZ500L is a medium-sized machine of a similar configuration, suitable for tool shops machining components of different sizes, from part machining to mould making.

Also at IMTS, Sodick will display the linear-motor-driven AP250L fine wire high-accuracy and high-efficiency water EDM machine, which provides instantaneous servo time to maximise cutting efficiency for tiny intricate parts that require a micro-wire diameter.

The bridge-type configuration of this machine, together with its low centre of gravity, allows super-precision positioning, enhanced by the use of liquid cooling and air circulation systems, according to the company.

The automatic vertical tank provides improved operational ergonomics during set-up through its U-shaped working area and the separate control panel has enabled the placing of flowmeters and valve operations in front of every unit.
