The GT2 tray sealer from Proseal has been installed at soft-fruit supplier Geoffrey Bruce’s facilities in Perthshire, Scotland.

Geoffrey Bruce, which grows and packs strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackcurrants, needed a reliable tray sealer for its punnets of strawberries and raspberries as part of a move by UK supermarkets to top-sealed packs instead of clip-on lids.

The Proseal GT2 tray sealer offers a top speed of up to 96 packs per minute.

At the same time, special features such as servo-controlled pack transfer, which creates a smooth movement for trays throughout the sealing process, and self-centring pack guides, which ensure the trays are accurately positioned for sealing, mean that product quality is maintained even at high speeds.

Proseal’s advanced lightweight and high-strength ‘Auto Tool’ connection system enables tool changes to be carried out in around three minutes.

Downtime is also minimised by the use of quick-change conveyor belts and an auto-lock film reel holder.

The machine’s practical design is enhanced by situating the electrical controls above the sealing area; this also provides safe access for cleaning.

Other features to help maintain consistent operation include automatic film-snap and film-end detection.

A menu-driven control panel, which facilitates setup and operation, can be remotely accessed and controlled.

The screen also provides detailed production data, production monitoring and full diagnostics.

Full double-sided operation is provided by a swing-arm control interface for enhanced accessibility.

The tray sealer is claimed to feature a rugged construction, which is manufactured to food-industry-approved hygiene standards with full wash-down protection.
