SICK has launched a software upgrade for its Flexi Soft Controller that will improve the control of safety applications for small to medium-sized machines.

The new version of the Flexi Soft Designer software, Designer v1.3, enables the connection of up to four Flexi Soft Controllers, measuring up to 100m, in series, with an online view of the setup.

As well as controlling an extended series of sensor function inputs and outputs, Flexi Soft Designer simplifies the updating and reconfiguring of new safety tasks.

Flexi Soft Designer allows the user to document the software with full functional descriptions, which are stored locally on the Flexi Soft Controller.

The reports from the software also allow the user to document the project according to the requirements of BS EN 13849-1.

Designer v1.3 ensures faster and simpler setup and configuration to enhance safety and minimise the possibility of error.

The 10 new logic blocks include a ramp-down monitor and access to more features of SICK laser scanners and light curtains than are available in standalone equipment.

Fast shut-off, with integrated bypass, and an adjustable on/off delay ensure that response times are minimised to 8ms, reducing safety distances and the machine footprint.

The new integral test tool and data recorder functions allow rapid system configuration/commissioning testing and instant data recording for troubleshooting and verification, without the need for third-party software.

Input, output and wiring diagrams are now displayed graphically, enabling a complete system overview for validation and minimising errors.

SICK’s Flexi Soft Controller has been designed, from the outset, to combine function modules to meet the needs of a range of machinery safety applications.
