The Solarcheck monitoring system from Phoenix Contact comprises a measurement module and communication module and is said to be a reliable tool for monitoring string currents in large-scale photovoltaic (PV) installations.

The system identifies faults and performance-related issues, allowing rapid fixes to be deployed and maximising both availability and revenue.

The measurement module, which is 22.5mm wide, is simultaneously supplied via the two-core communication cable, meaning no additional power supply is required in the device terminal box.

The communication module collects the values from up to eight measurement modules and transfers them to a central process control system.

Key information

  • Solarcheck can be integrated into existing network structures, such as a Modbus-RTU node
  • Wiring is kept simple
  • Measurement module determines the key parameters of up to eight PV strings, which are then transferred to the communication module
  • Current is measured using Hall sensors
  • Cables are routed through openings in the housing without having to interrupt them
  • For each measurement module, a DC voltage of up to 1,200V is captured in isolated systems, providing a performance and productivity overview
  • A digital input enables remote signalling contacts to be monitored
