The ST50 thermal mass flowmeter from Fluid Components International (FCI) is now certified to FM and CSA safety standards.

The FM-approved mark shows that the ST50 flowmeter has been deemed to perform reliably and safely, backed by independent scientific research and testing.

CSA International, a provider of product testing and certification, tests products for compliance with national and international standards for safety and performance.

A CSA certification mark means that the ST50 flowmeter has been formally evaluated, through testing and follow-up inspection, and meets high safety and performance standards.

The FM- and CSA-approved ST50 flowmeter provides direct mass flow measurement with high effectiveness, utilising FCI’s accurate thermal dispersion mass flow sensing technology.

With the ST50, there is no need for the temperature sensors, flow computers or other devices required with orifice plates, Venturis, Vortex shedding or other meters, according to the company.

The ST50 is claimed to feature built-in temperature compensation for reliable measurement over a wide temperature range with almost no pressure drop.

Featuring a wide flow range, the device measures air flow from 1SFPS to 125SFPS (0.3NMPS to 38NMPS), nitrogen from 1SFPS to 150SFPS (0.3NMPS to 46NMPS) and compressed air from 4SFPS to 400SFPS (1.2NMPS to 122NMPS).

Accuracy is +1 per cent of the reading and +0.5 per cent of the full scale, with a repeatability of +0.5 per cent of the reading.

It operates at temperatures from +40F to +100F (+4C to +38C).

The ST50 is suitable for applications in chemical processing, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, plant air and wastewater treatment.

It is said to be ideal for aeration systems, burner and furnace air control, blower and dryer air flow, compressed-air systems, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems and nitrogen tank blanketing.

The ST50 is field configurable for flow range in standard mass flow or volumetric engineering units.

In addition to the wireless infrared (IR) input/output (I/O), it features dual analogue outputs, 4-20mA and 0-10VDC, all of which are field assignable as flow rate or temperature, and an RS232C I/O port.

A 0-1kHz pulse output for totalising flow is also available as an option.

All configurations can be set by the user in the field with any standard laptop to the RS232C port and/or via the wireless IR link or a personal digital assistant.

The ST50’s stainless-steel sensing element, featuring Hastelloy-C tips, is designed for endurance and maximum performance in outdoor and field installation conditions.

Its electronics are housed in an all-aluminium, epoxy-coated enclosure that is NEMA 4X (IP66) rated and it withstands operational pressures up to 500psig (34bar[g]).

The high-accuracy flowmeter offers three process connections: 1/2in MNPT or 3/4in MNPT with a stainless-steel or Teflon ferrule.

It is available in three field-adjustable U-length probes measuring 6in, 12in and 18in (152mm, 305mm and 457mm) to accommodate pipe sizes from 2in to 124in (51mm to 610mm).

Instrument powering options include both DC (18-36V) and AC (85-265V).

The ST50 comes with a one-year standard warranty.
