Stemmer Imaging has launched cameras and frame grabbers — including the Optronis high-speed CL4000CXP camera and the Firebird and Microenable V image capture cards — that utilise the Coaxpress data transmission standard.

Coaxpress offers the ability to send high-speed video, communication, control and power over long distances using a single standard coaxial cable.

Data rates of up to 6.25Gbps per cable for video, images and data are achievable over distances of up to 40m. Data transmission over distances greater than 100m are possible at 3.125Gbps.

Further information

CL4000CXP camera from Optronis

  • Four-megapixel camera with Coaxpress interface, available in monochrome or colour versions
  • Features CMOS sensor with high-speed global shutter and 2,304 x 1,720 pixel resolution
  • Frame rate of 500 images/sec at full resolution; this can be increased to 100,000 images/sec by reducing the scanned area to 2,304 x 4 pixels
  • Shutter speeds as low as 2μs provide sharp images
  • Image data separated into packets and transferred via four parallel coaxial channels to the PC at 2GB/sec

Firebird image capture card from Active Silicon

  • Windows and Linux (32-bit and 64-bit) compatible
  • Based on the PCI Express x8 interface, this card features power over Coaxpress
  • Uses FPGAs and DDR3 memory
  • Allows simultaneous image acquisition from up to four Coaxpress links
  • Available with one, two or four Coaxpress channels and includes on-board general-purpose digital I/O
  • Each link supports data rates of up to 6.25Gbps, along with device power up to 13W and device control at 20.8Mbps on a single coax cable
  • Links can be combined to provide multiples of the single coax bandwidth

Microenable V card from Silicon Software

  • Windows and Linux (32-bit and 64-bit) compatible
  • Based on the PCI Express x8 interface, this card features power over Coaxpress
  • Has four Coaxpress channels
  • Available as an acquisition board (A series) or a processing board (V series) supporting the Visualapplets FPGA design environment
  • Uses DMA3600 technology for image transfer to the PC
  • Digital I/O is available as an add-on

STEMMER IMAGING is Europe’s largest imaging technology provider with headquarters in Germany and subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, France and Switzerland.

Image processing or Machine Vision is used in many different application areas – such as industrial automation, medical imaging, security and traffic technology – as a powerful and cost effective way of implementing automatic quality assurance. Even at high speeds and with stringent accuracy requirements, image processing allows 100% monitoring and thus strengthens the competitive edge of those companies using it.

STEMMER IMAGING customers have access to a wide variety of imaging products from the worlds leading manufacturers. These manufacturers represent the cutting edge of vision technology which is something that is unique in Europe. STEMMER IMAGING are the developers of the world’s leading image processing software platform, Common Vision Blox, and as a manufacturer of customer-specific products, we have a full range of in-house expertise to draw on, allowing us to supply the best possible service to our customers when choosing an imaging solution. STEMMER IMAGING does not produce turn-key solutions – instead, using our close partnerships with a large number of experienced system integrators, we can provide expert technical know-how for the planning, integration and realisation of complete solutions.
