Steribelt brochure - .PDF file.

The Steribelt system from Heraeus Noblelight uses ultra-violet (UV), indium-amalgam flat-emitter technology to provide continuous disinfection of conveyor belts in food processing and is especially suitable for applications in the meat processing industry. Its efficiency can be measured and documented for quality control purposes.

UV disinfection is an environmentally friendly disinfection process, which does not employ chemicals or ozone. UVC light has an intensive germicidal effect.

The wavelength of 253.7nm is absorbed by up to 85 per cent in the cell nucleus of the micro-organisms and this halts the metabolism of the cells and their propagation. In this way, viruses, bacteria, yeasts and mildew and other organisms are neutralised or destroyed.

However, conventional round emitters are not ideal for surface disinfection as they apply only about a third of the emitted radiation as direct radiation onto the surface. Because of the shape of the Steribelt lamp, more than 50 per cent of the power is directed onto the surface allowing significant efficiency increase. In addition, for the same geometry, these lamps offer around three times the power.

In operation, the Steribelt module is fitted to the conveyor belt at the front face or from below. It features Lampsafe shatter protection and is contained within a robust, IP67, stainless steel housing with no external air- or water-cooling and is suitable for operation in low temperature environments.
