The Tacchella Proflex range of grinding machines is designed to provide flexibility in medium to large production environments.

The range now includes a grinding centre that is suitable for small, ultra-high-precision components.

Tacchella offers customised grinding machines and systems designed to solve specific manufacturing problems.

They feature a modular design approach based on machine reconfigurability that ensures all components and subsystems can be efficiently integrated.

The most recent example of this kind of technology transfer is reflected in the Proflex line of external grinding centres, which also includes internal grinding capability.

For its major customers, Tacchella uses a co-engineering approach to machine development that involves continual interchanges with experts in the field.

The Tacchella Proflex range of cylindrical grinding machines includes internal grinding attachments.

The wheel head can be configured as desired with external and/or internal grinding spindles, and with conventional or high-speed CBN wheels.

With this unit, typical wheel setups for external grinding operations can be combined with one or more internal grinding spindles, all featuring spindle units with integrated drive motors.

A recently completed Fiat Avio order was the latest of a series of successful applications in this field.

For the Fiat Avio application, the customer needed to process an Inconel alloy turbine rotor disc using innumerable grinding operations that included plunge-cut diameter and shoulder grinding with external wheels, diameter and shoulder grinding with internal wheels, and groove radius and shoulder grinding with CBN internal wheels.

Tacchella determined that the best machine for the job was the Proflex3 C3.60 grinder.

The grinder – in addition to the wheel head with a total of three spindles: one for external grinding operations and two for internal grinding – features a series of solutions for accessories, work-holding and clamping devices, drive systems, work probing systems and, in particular, for dressing conventional and CBN wheels.

The Proflex features a control unit that brings together all the functions the operator needs to run the machine, from the grinding cycle to wheel dressing and setup.

All Tacchella’s grinding machines are equipped with interactive software – the Tacchella Operator Package.

All setup, grinding, programming, cycle monitoring and diagnostics operations involved in normal machine use can be carried out with ease, due to a working environment that draws on interactive graphics techniques.

The most commonly used wheel profiles are stored in the package’s Standard Wheel Library.

All special wheel profiles can also be generated and stored to extend the database.

The selection of standard grinding cycles, which can be combined in any machine configuration, makes it possible to carry out complete, complex grinding operations in a single setup.
