Tecate Industries, a supplier of capacitors and supercapacitors, has released two film capacitors based on advanced segmented metallised film technology.

The polyester (PET) film Type 9114 and polypropylene (PP) film Type 9014 capacitors are claimed to eliminate the risk of short-circuit failure and are supplied with voltage options of 250VDC, 450VDC and 450VDC/220VAC.

A range of capacitance values and case sizes is also available to provide engineers with maximum design flexibility.

The RoHS-compliant, non-inductive parts feature self-healing properties to support long product life and are flame retardant epoxy resin coated.

Tecate’s segmented metallised film Type 9114 and Type 9014 capacitors are designed to function in a range of active filter circuits in which high capacitance stability, dielectric absorption and self-healing performance is required.

They are commonly specified for use in converters and switch-mode power supplies (SMPSs) for laptop and desktop computers, as well as for industrial equipment.

The PET Type 9114 capacitors feature 17 capacitance options in a range from 0.1 microfarad to 10 microfarads and voltage options of 250VDC or 450VDC.

They are provided in sizes ranging from 5.5mm x 12.5mm x 9.0mm, up to 17.5mm x 31.0mm x 26.5mm.

Featuring a very high DV/DT value and a voltage of 450VAC/220VAC, the PP Type 9014 capacitors are available in 11 capacitance options ranging from 0.15 microfarad to 3.3 microfarads.

These parts may be ordered in sizes ranging from 5.5mm x 18.0mm x 9.5mm, up to 16.0mm x 31.0mm x 24.0mm.

Both the PET Type 9114 and PP Type 9014 are rated for an operating temperature range of -40C to +85C with full rated voltage applied.

Capacitance tolerances are +/-5 per cent, +/-10 per cent and +/-20 per cent.

The dielectric strength is 1.6Vr for two seconds and the dissipation factor is 1.0 per cent maximum at 1KHz at 25C.
