Flir Systems has introduced the Flir i3 thermal imaging camera for construction, building envelope studies, energy management and building inspection applications at a price of GBP895 (plus VAT).

The company said this price has been achieved through economies of scale.

The Flir i3 is a thermal imaging camera that will benefit those working in construction, building envelope studies, energy management, building inspection and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning installation or repair.

It is also suitable for the homeowner wishing to check the health of electrical and heating systems, pre- and post-repair.

Said to be very easy to use, the Flir i3 enables electrical and mechanical abnormalities to be seen in an instant.

Excess heat is almost certainly the sign of a problem that can lead to failure or even fire.

Flir said with the i3, it is as simple as point, capture and discover.

The i3 produces thermal images of 60 x 60pixels that are of excellent quality for first-time users.

A spot meter in the centre of the image allows accurate temperature values to be read and differences of just 0.15C to be detected.

The performance of the Flir i3 is said to be 3,600 times better than that of a spot pyrometer.

It only records the temperature at a single point, making it all too easy to miss critical problems.

In contrast, the Flir i3 has 3,600 measurement points enabling it to scan an entire component.

This provides instant diagnostic information enabling the camera user to see the full extent of the problem.

Thermal images are stored in jpeg format on a removable SD card together with all temperature data.

The Flir i3 comes complete with Flir Quickreport software for image analysis and fast inspection report generation.

It is also fully compatible with the Flir Reporter software.
