JCB Industrial has used a Thorworld mobile yard ramp in conjunction with a container vehicle to demonstrate the performance of its Teletruk range of telescopic forklifts.

The Teletruks feature a small working footprint and are able to carry a very high load capacity over most surfaces and gradients, making them suitable for use in busy and congested yards.

JCB Industrial hosts its annual demonstrations to give customers and dealers the opportunity to see Teletruks in action in order to show how effective the machines are in real-life working situations.

This year, the event attracted people from the transport, logistics, waste recycling, builders’ merchant, industrial and materials handling sectors, as well as JCB’s fork-truck dealer network.

This is the fourth consecutive year that JCB Industrial has chosen to use a mobile loading ramp from Thorworld.

The ramp is designed and built specifically to allow the safe and efficient loading and unloading of vehicles by fork truck in environments where there are no raised loading docks, such as within JCB’s demonstration arena.

A JCB spokesman said: ‘We held the demonstration because we wanted to show our customers just how effectively the Teletruks perform in a working environment.

‘The event included a variety of real-life tasks such as unloading the container lorry as fast as possible, which is where the Teletruk and Thorworld’s mobile yard ramp really come into their own.

‘We used a Thorworld mobile container loading ramp for our demonstration because we have absolute confidence in their products; they are extremely strong and rigid so you know they’re not going to shift as the Teletruk drives up and down the ramp – particularly when carrying a full load – and the serrated deck gives good traction in all weathers, allowing a container lorry to be loaded or unloaded quickly, safely and efficiently,’ added the spokesman.

Thorworld mobile yard ramps feature a steel superstructure and solid beam construction.

Available as Standard, Deluxe and Super Deluxe (light, medium and heavy-duty) models, with 6,000kg, 7,000kg, 10,000kg, 12,000kg or 15,000kg capacities, they can be purchased outright or hired through the company’s specialist Rentaramp operation with a sale or return option.

Hydraulically operated down to 890mm, the ramps have a serrated open grid deck for positive traction in all weather conditions, are CE marked and fully meet all European safety standards and directives.

Bespoke models can also be supplied to meet individual customer requirements and a service and maintenance back-up facility is available to help ensure that the ramps are always kept in a safe working condition.

According to John Meale, managing director of Thorworld Industries, the ramp can be quickly and easily moved around a site using a forklift truck.

He said: ‘Then, once in position, the vehicle can be backed up and secured to the ramp using the safety chain and wheel chocks to enable loading or unloading to commence.

‘This means the ramp can provide companies who don’t have a dedicated raised loading dock with a safe and effective method for loading and unloading goods from lorries, whenever and wherever needed,’ added Meale.

Thorworld offers loading bay and materials handling equipment, safety aids and accessories, including dock shelters and seals, dock levellers, modular loading docks, dock plates and boards, dock and vehicle bumpers, wheel chocks, vehicle restraints, traffic-light wheel guides and alignment curbs and mobile yard ramps (available for purchase or rental), together with the Truckloada mobile yard lift and the Dockloada scissor lift platform.
