Balluff has introduced the Micropulse CD, a high-pressure-rated rod-style transducer with a working pressure of 1,000bar, which is suitable for hydraulic cylinders handling extreme loads.

Micropulse CD transducers ensure that extreme loads are controlled and precisely moved.

They are based on magnetostrictive distance measuring technology.

Featuring an absolute and non-contact measuring principle, it is designed to deliver reliable, precise and dynamic measurement of the piston position in hydraulic cylinders.

The flange-and-rod design, together with the stable stainless-steel material, makes the Micropulse CD transducer suitable for use as a feedback system in demanding applications.

The Micropulse BTL CD transducer, which is independently certified by MPA University in Stuttgart, is available with stroke lengths from 25mm to 2,000mm.

Able to withstand pressure peaks of 1,350bar, the transducer outer rod has a diameter of 12.7mm and an outer-wall thickness of 3.25mm and is manufactured from HP160 stainless steel.

Analogue current and voltage outputs are available, in addition to digital pulse, SSI, Profibus and CANopen interfaces.

Ethernet communication will be be available by the end of 2011.

According to Balluff, the transducer is also the first such system to achieve an EX rating for zone 2, ignition class nA.

The BTL CD has all the advantages of the Balluff Micropulse 600bar-rated transducers.

These transducers are designed for applications that require a high degree of reliability and precision.

Suitable for measurement lengths between 25mm and 7,500mm, integrable and compact, Micropulse displacement systems are extremely versatile.

Balluff claims the non-contact working principle of the systems ensures a complete absence of wear and a virtually endless service life.

The high-precision output signal serves as an absolute signal for the controller in a wide range of different interfaces.

The BTL CD is aimed at the construction, offshore and specialist machinery (forging presses, lift and hoist technology) markets.
