Trelleborg Offshore Norway has increased its capacity to meet demand for its Elastopipe offshore and marine fire safety prevention system, which offers corrosion-free and fire-resistant performance.

The company has doubled its output volume by building a new factory and production line inside its existing premises at Krokstadelva, 50km (30 miles) south of Oslo, Norway.

According to Thor Hegg Eriksen, president of Trelleborg Offshore Norway, demand has risen for the company’s Elastopipe system, which is also suitable for other applications including hydrocarbons and gas transport.

‘Contractors and operators are realising its minimal maintenance and low lifetime cost benefits, and 80 per cent of our output is now exported,’ added Eriksen.

The 1,200m2 (12,917ft2) factory and production line, which took 18 months to build, are built to high efficiency, automation and safety standards, improving output volume, product quality and reducing waste, according to the company.

Elastopipe is said to have advantages over conventional rigid steel pipes and is suitable for seawater-based deluge and sprinkler systems.

It is claimed to offer lower installation costs and reduced maintenance.

The system achieves 24/7 system availability for seawater fire prevention duties with less need to be offline for testing and regular planned maintenance.

This has a positive impact on safety, reducing downtime and improving operating costs.

Trelleborg claims that Elastopipe also offers weight advantages over steel.

It is suitable for fixed and floating platforms, support vessels and onshore oil-and-gas installations.
