Master Chemical has introduced Trim C272: a variant of the Trim C270 synthetic cutting and grinding fluid but without the inclusion of boron and formaldehyde donor biocides.

Several EU countries are now restricting the use of boron and formaldehyde donor biocides as constituents in metalworking fluids.

According to the company, the Trim C272 fluid retains all the performance qualities of the original Trim C270.

It allows global companies to standardise on the product without infringing ‘local’ environmental legislation.

Trim C272 provides cooling, chip settling, tramp oil rejection and filterability and meets the needs of the modern machine shop.

It is suitable for applications where high coolant volumes and velocities are prerequisites of achieving maximum productivity.

An Italian manufacturer of track-for-track guided vehicles has conducted field trials on Trim C272 and reported good creep feed grinding performance at flow rates of more than 500 litres per minute at 20bar.

The company also confirmed low foam and mist, low carry-off and low total operation costs.

Trim C272 is compatible with a range of materials, including cast iron, mild steels, corrosion-resistant steels, plastics and composites.

It utilises a proprietary chlorine and sulphur-free extreme-pressure additive that controls built-up edge and ensures good tool life and surface finish.

Another characteristic that the new variant carries forward to the next generation is clean running machines and parts protection.

It leaves a protective fluid coating that is resoluble in a coolant working solution and minimises the build-up of sticky residues that can harbour abrasive chips.

The fluid is claimed to be suitable for recycling.

The Coolant Management Company

Master Chemical develops and markets a comprehensive metalworking fluid
programme.  Its products are cutting and grinding fluids, cutting oils,
washing and cleaning compounds and rust preventatives.  They are all
marketed under the brand name, TRIM.

Since 1990 Master Chemical Europe has provided a dedicated sales and
manufacturing service for Europe.  In that time it has also become the
centre of excellence for product development to meet the specific production
needs of European manufacturers.

Its research has led to the introduction of a range of water- and vegetable
ester based formulations that are non-hazardous yet offer superb production
performance.

The need for this type of metalworking fluid is driven by EU regulation and
as a result Master Chemical Europe is now the leading manufacturer of
application-specific metalworking fluids.

When used in conjunction with Master Chemical’s trademark coolant management
strategies, these products provide optimum productivity and significant
operating cost reduction.

To provide greater capacity for this work the company recently moved to new
premises that include a laboratory that is three times bigger than its
forerunner.

Master Chemical Europe is now responsible for supporting an ever-expanding
distributor network, extending from Portugal in the south to Russia and
Scandinavia in the north and east.
