Laser systems from Trotec are equipped with a line of CO2 laser sources from US-based manufacturer Iradion Laser. According to the company, the laser source concept provides reliability, high engraving quality and longevity of service life. The resonator body where the laser radiation is generated is 100 per cent ceramic.

The Ceramicore design is said to offer a number of benefits compared with all-metal or all-glass lasers. Ceramic lasers can be operated at much greater pressures than other lasers, resulting in faster pulse speeds, which are critical for high-speed engraving and marking applications.

The electronics’ architecture also requires lower energy consumption, with benchmark tests showing a reduction of up to 30 per cent.

The laser sources have been optimised for Trotec laser systems in order to maximise the Ceramicore technology’s benefits.

Further benefits

  • No aluminium welds or sealings — which could leak over time — are required; this is guaranteed by the production process, which sees two ceramic half shells fused together to form the resonator.
  • The ceramic resonator is fired at 800°C and the burning process immaculately cleans the interior surface.
  • All of the optical elements are glued onto the ceramic, the electrodes are mounted on the outside of the resonator and the gas is excited through the ceramic body.
  • There are no interior metal surfaces that could damage the equilibrium of the gas mixture; the result is a pure gas composition that lasts the whole lifetime of the laser source.
