Trumpf has announced the availability of a Bendmaster automated bending system for large workpieces.

Established versions of this bending system are suitable for parts weighing up to 40kg.

This latest addition extends this maximum to 100kg or parts exerting a bearing load of 150kg.

In common with its forerunners, this high-capacity Bendmaster is characterised by sensor-controlled process reliability, high flexibility, thanks to vacuum gripping technology, and simple offline programming.

The Bendmaster system is a four-axis manipulator arm that runs on the Z-axis track in parallel with the press brake and is programmed off-line using the same Trutops Bend software.

The automated press brake can be also operated manually.

This allows small batches and intricate work to be economically produced by the operator leaving medium to large volumes for automated manufacture by Bendmaster.

A number of features ensure the Bendmaster system is optimised for automated operation.

An optical sheet sensor records the part position in two steps through approximate and precision position detection.

Blanks can therefore be randomly stacked as there is no need for the operator to waste time centring them.

This also eliminates the need for a separate alignment station.

Two NC-controlled gripping consoles ensure that the Bendmaster is able to handle all positioning requirements in the bending process.

A range of different gripper types can be used.

The choice is standard vacuum cups, suction pads for components with cut outs or perforations and mechanical grippers for smaller components.

These are attached to the manipulator arm using a common fitting and can be changed automatically if required.

The Trutops Bend software fully integrates programming and control of the press brake, Bendmaster, gripping technology and different stacking arrangements.

As the beam is synchronised with Bendmaster, the Trumpf ACB angle system can also be employed to ensure maximum accuracy and repeatability.

The high-capacity Bendmaster is designed for minimum sheet thickness of 0.7mm and for parts up to a maximum size of 3m x 1.5m.
