Variohm Eurosensor has launched a range of heavy-duty, sealed linear position sensors from Novotechnik that can operate in extreme operational environments.

The LWX series builds upon the LWG rod-actuated potentiometric design with additional sealing to an IP67 protection rating.

It features a pressure equalisation technology that prevents ‘pump effect’ pressure build up.

Aimed at extended-life and high-reliability linear position measurement applications in construction equipment, agricultural machinery and severe industrial automation environments, the LWX series is available in various electrical stroke lengths up to 750mm, providing absolute measurement with resolution to 0.01mm and linearity up to 0.04 per cent.

The all-metal design includes a sturdy anodised aluminium housing with a stainless-steel actuator rod supported in twin bearings and a backlash-free pivot-head mounting on rod and body ends.

The fully sealed unit is rated for 50 million movements and is suitable for operation in environments such as high-pressure wash down, water, oil and other contaminants.

Novotechnik’s conductive plastic resistance element features specialised multiple printed ink technologies with multi-fingered precious metal wipers in an elastomer damping mechanism that maintains complete and even contact under the most arduous shock and vibration conditions.

LWX environmental specifications include a vibration rating from 5Hz to 2,000Hz at up to 20G and a shock rating to 50G for 11ms.

The LWX series is part of a wide range of Novotechnik contacting and non-contacting linear and angular position sensors available in the UK and Ireland from Variohm Eurosensor.

Fully sealed and open designs are available with a numerous mounting styles and grades of precision including dual-redundancy versions.

Customised designs can also be supplied as part of Variohm’s service.
