A range of Verderflex peristaltic pumps has helped a salt producer in Spain to enhance its process.

Although salt is the primary product, the raw material from which it is extracted also contains silica as well as mud and other minerals.

These sodium silicates are used for food preservations, water treatment, automotive engine repair and fire protection.

Once excavated from the hills surrounding the plant, the raw material is combined with water in a mixing vessel to dissolve the salt.

The combination of salt water, silica slurry and mud is transferred to a decanting system for separation, where a Verderflex VF65 hose pump is responsible for transferring the highly abrasive silica slurry to a storage tank.

Abrasion is not a limiting factor for Verderflex peristaltic pumps, mainly because they have no seals or valves that come into contact with the liquid being pumped.

The silica slurry is entirely contained within the natural rubber hose, which is designed to reduce fatigue and provide a long service life.

The hose is the only wearing part and is claimed to be quick and simple to replace, keeping downtime to a minimum.

Hoses in peristaltic pumps generally fail owing to fatigue between the rubber layers and the reinforcement.

However, the Verderflex production process ensures that the exact wall thickness and outer-diameter tolerances are maintained at every point without the need for exterior machining.

The textured surface of the hose creates micropockets of lubrication, promoting even lubricant coverage and further extending hose life.

Two further Verderflex pumps – a VF40 and a VF65 – are employed to transfer the mud slurry to a filter press for de-watering.

The salt water is then subjected to further filtration to remove more impurities.

After evaporation, crystallisation, granulation and forming, the salt emerges from the process line as extra-high-purity pellets.

Verder manufactures and supplies high-quality pumping solutions throughout the world to a variety of industries including: water and wastewater; printing; packaging; chemical; industrial; food and beverage; construction and pharmaceutical. Verder’s range of quality industrial pumps can assist in any application and include: peristaltic pumps; air-diaphragm pumps; mag-drive centrifugal pumps; and gear pumps.

We specialise in providing sealless pumps, which ensure that spillages are avoided a particular problem when pumping hazardous chemicals, aggressive or abrasive fluids, toxic media and fluids containing solids.

Verder pumps are safe, strong and reliable products and with most pumping ranges offer a sealless, 100 per cent leakproof pumping solution.

In addition, pumps for specific requirements such as Atex, ultra-pure or SIP/CIP possibilities are available in the Verder pumping range.

Verder has vast experience in providing reliable and cost-effective fluid-handling solutions and with more than 50 years' experience we are specialists in this field.
