Vicon Motion Systems has released the latest version of its Tracker object tracking software application.

First launched in October 2009, Tracker is claimed to provide data accuracy for integration in a variety of 3D applications.

The newest release – Version 1.1 – reduces latency and enables a higher object count to be tracked compared with the previous release.

Tracker v1.1 tracks objects while they are moving at speed, getting high-quality data at much lower latency.

This update is suitable for customers who want to track multiple objects concurrently.

For instance, tracking unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with very low latency is important for the development of flight control algorithms, helping with two areas of UAV research: swarming and assessing the safety of the civilian use of UAVs.

Douglas Reinke, chief executive officer and president at Vicon, said: ‘Tracker v1.1 can easily track 50 unique objects simultaneously.

‘This is important in high-object-count environments such as immersive whole-body tracking in a VR Cave, as it maximises the user’s sense of immersion,’ he added.

Features of the latest release include: an optimised rigid body tracker, which provides data that is tolerant to the occlusion of markers; low latency output, allowing data to be received quickly after an observed event; simple software, enabling users to get going quickly with minimal system setup; and flexible integration with third-party applications, enabling users to read the data stream from the system in one of three ways (TCP, UDP or VRPN).

This provides maximum compatibility with third-party applications or development environments such as C++ (Windows 32/64 or Linux), Labview, Virtools and TrackD.

Full support for Windows Vista and Windows 7 enables Tracker to be used out of the box with the latest computers.

The Tracker software is compatible with Vicon MX, F-Series, T-Series and Bonita cameras.

It can also be used independent of any hardware using the Vicon Virtual System emulator.

This option is useful for third-party integrators who want to test Tracker data or produce plug-ins.
