AKO Armaturen has announced that its VMCE air-operated pinch valve series is Type EL — Class I, Type EL aseptic — Class I certified by the European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG). The pinch valves are suitable for use in the food, pharmaceutical, beverage and chemical industries.

The pinch valves, available in nominal sizes DN10-100 (3/8in–4in) are characterised by an easy-to-clean (CIP), SIP-capable and bacteria-tight design.

Air-operated pinch valves are said to be an ideal solution for isolating and regulating abrasive, corrosive and fibrous products. They are being increasingly used as isolating or regulating valves for emulsions, sludges, dusts, gaseous materials, compressed air, powder, granulates, pellets and so on.

According to AKO Armaturen, another decisive advantage in the use of pinch valves compared with conventional valves such as butterfly valves or ball valves lies in the almost wear-free and absolutely tight shut-off of the product stream.

How does an AKO pinch valve work?

Pinch valves work by the controlling the medium of air pressure or water being used between the pinch valve body and the sleeve to give 100 per cent closure of the pinch valve. Exhausting the pressure causes the pinch valve to open. When open, the sleeve is a true bore allowing unobstructed medium to flow through. The maximum operating pressure is dependent on the nominal diameter and is around 2–6 bar.
