The heavy-duty Hyundai-Kia KH63G horizontal machining centre available from UK distributor Ward CNC offers a ‘mid-range’ cost-effective solution for a variety of multi-loaded workpieces.

The machining centre features optional 360-degree B-axis and X-, Y- and Z-axis travels of 950 x 825 x 760mm, on which rapid traverse rates are 20m/min, coupled with 5,000mm/min feed rates and quick-change (18-second) twin pallets of 630 x 630mm for loads up to 1,000kg.

The 22/18.8kW spindle produces 8,000/4,500rev/min to complement the standard 40-tool automatic tool changer (options are available for 60, 90 and 120 tools) for tools up to 245mm in diameter and 600mm in length.

Tool-to-tool and chip-to-chip times are 5.5 and nine seconds respectively.

Of shuttle-type design, the pallets can be exchanged in 18 seconds.

The KH63G is of T-type cast-iron structure for rigidity and stable machining, while the Y-guide plate maintains high-accuracy cutting by constantly ‘retaining’ the main spindle head against the column in all eight planes, according to the company.

Z-axis slide friction is minimised by the use of a semi-floating sliding method.

The standard control system is Fanuc 18iMC with Manual Guide-i programming.

Available options include linear scales, a one-degree indexing full B-axis NC rotary table and up to 70bar through-spindle coolant.
