Igus has developed a steel/plastic rod-end bearing that is suitable for applications including solar power systems and facades and machine building projects.

The Igubal EBRM-16 V bearing is designed to bridge the gap between traditional steel and plastic bearings in terms of load capabilities.

According to the company, the bearing can handle tensile loads of up to 15kN — a 50 per cent increase over standard Igubal rod-end bearings — without having to compromise on the maintenance- and lubrication-free characteristics offered by its pure plastic counterparts. In addition, it can compensate for misalignment and edge loading.

The bearing is currently available with a diameter of 16mm, but Igus can use the same design principles in other dimensions if suitable.
