Two different sized pit-mounted Eurodeck weighbridges installed by Westco Bilanciai are playing a crucial role at GA Sait’s metal recycling site at Wimborne in Dorset.

The two extra-wide (3.5m) weighbridges, which are installed in tandem, have capacities of 50 tonnes and 30 tonnes, with respective lengths of 18m and 9m.

The 18m bridge has an approved weight increment of 20kg and is used for weighing larger vehicles, while the 9m bridge has a smaller 10kg increment to optimise the weighing of smaller lorries, vans and trucks.

Although the 9m weighbridge has a working capacity of 30 tonnes, the load cells are rated so that the larger vehicles can drive over it without causing any damage.

The robust modular design of the Eurodeck is suitable for the harsh operating environments encountered at recycling sites.

The weighbridge features fully welded stainless-steel load cells and a special restraint system to minimise the damaging effects of harsh vehicle braking.

The structural beams, which support a robust durbar deck, run length ways, consistent with traffic flow and have sufficient depth so that they do not need stiffening plates.

This gives a consistent, well-drained weighing surface, avoiding any build up of condensation.

The unsupported span between these beams is 165mm, which means that with maximum loading in the centre of a standard module, there is minimum deflection.
