Werma’s Wireless Information Network (WIN) allows the wireless monitoring of machinery in the workshop. The manufacturer has added a development to WIN called WIN slave performance, as well as a piece part counting module.

WIN can improve efficiency and productivity in the workshop and lead to greater transparency of the manufacturing process. The low-cost system can monitor wirelessly up to 50 machines irrespective of age or type of the machine.

Werma also introduced WIN slave performance. The new software developed for this module also includes many other new features. In addition to the existing monitoring functions, the new software can monitor the piece part count of the machine and analyse the progress of a job on the machine. The system can monitor the piece count of the machine and analyse the progress of a job on the machine. The hardware monitors up to six different machine status conditions as well as counting the piece part production output signal of the machine.

According to the company, WIN is an inexpensive piece of kit that is easy to install. The system is ‘plug and play’ — that is, the transmitter accessory WIN slave performance is added to an existing Werma Kombisign signal tower, which transmits data collected to the receiver WIN master connected to a PC with a USB cable. There is no licence restriction to the number of users permitted to use the system software.

Two different starter kits are offered, which allow the user to set up and start monitoring and counting without a complicated installation process. With the all-round starter kit WIN complete with WIN slave performancefor Kombisign71 the user can set up monitoring three machines and it comes with three signal tower kits. A second starter kit, WIN system with WIN slave performance is designed for an existing Werma KS70/71 installation and contains just the elements required to be added onto the existing Werma signal tower to allow monitoring to take place. Additional accessories can be selected at any time from the range available.

Key product features

  • Details of the job in hand can be put into the system and monitored.
  • The monitoring of specific job performance criteria can contribute to improved machine utilisation and help reduce idle time in the production process.
  • The fulfilment level of a job in hand is displayed on the machine.
  • Any time frame can be viewed retrospectively at the touch of a button.
  • Clear and concise notification and display of monitored condition changes on the machine.
  • Notifications of changes in machine condition status can be sent by email to a PC or smartphone.
  • These notifications can be time delayed, if required.
  • Transmission distance given an unobstructed line of vision is 300m (construction and layout of a workshop may influence this).
  • As each WIN slave acts as a ‘repeater’ one to another, the network distance capability is considerably greater.

WERMA is the leading manufacturer of a wide range of Beacons and Sounders and accessories, often referred to as stack lights, signal towers and Andon systems. Products are designed and made at the HQ in Germany and the full range is available from its UK operation based in Wellingborough.

The range consists of signal towers and beacons available with both LEDs and filament bulbs together with a comprehensive range of sounders; sirens, buzzers and horns in a wide range of sound output levels.

Principal function is to provide optical and audible warning of machine fault or machine shop danger where such beacons and sounders are commonly installed.

Andon lights, as beacons are now commonly referred to, are often used as “call for action” systems to improve efficiency of for example line side supply of components. Manually operated lights alert remote departments wirelessly to resolve calls for action.

Many innovative features such as USB connectivity and wireless monitoring systems are also available.

There is also a comprehensive range of ex-proof signal products compliant with the latest ATEX directives.

The full range of products can be found on www.werma.co.uk where an Eshop facility is available for all major credit cards.

All WERMA products are manufactured to strictly controlled quality standards (DIN EN ISO 9001:2000).
