The Wireless Information Network (WIN) from Werma is a wireless-based workshop and machine efficiency monitoring system for lean production management and process improvement teams.

WIN

WIN is a simple, low-cost machine monitoring system based on andon lights and it transfers information and calls for action around the facility virtually instantaneously. A software application for WIN simplifies the monitoring process and is compatible with all major operating systems.

A green light signifies that a machine is working and/or available for work, whereas an amber light means that the machine is available but has reached the end of a cycle. A red light signifies a serious error and disruption of production.

Different light colours can used as ‘calls to action’ to notify the appropriate department that intervention is necessary. All of these status light changes are transmitted wirelessly to PCs where monitoring — aided by visual displays — can be carried out to reduce the incidence of productivity losses and therefore improve overall plant or machine utilisation efficiency.

The Werma WIN wireless system uses the harmonised EU-approved standard EN 300220 low-frequency 868MHz band and can therefore be used safely without any fear of interference, either with or from other systems.

Key benefits

  • WIN is said to be easy to install — there is no need for any hard wiring, trunking or additional works to the infrastructure in order to accommodate and operate the system.
  • The system can be retrofitted to existing Werma KS71/70 signal towers or can simply be cabled up in parallel to an existing beacon or signal tower utilising the same output signals used to fire the existing signal tower installation.
  • This very simple system is suitable for both small operators and more complex multi-machine operators.

WERMA is the leading manufacturer of a wide range of Beacons and Sounders and accessories, often referred to as stack lights, signal towers and Andon systems. Products are designed and made at the HQ in Germany and the full range is available from its UK operation based in Wellingborough.

The range consists of signal towers and beacons available with both LEDs and filament bulbs together with a comprehensive range of sounders; sirens, buzzers and horns in a wide range of sound output levels.

Principal function is to provide optical and audible warning of machine fault or machine shop danger where such beacons and sounders are commonly installed.

Andon lights, as beacons are now commonly referred to, are often used as “call for action” systems to improve efficiency of for example line side supply of components. Manually operated lights alert remote departments wirelessly to resolve calls for action.

Many innovative features such as USB connectivity and wireless monitoring systems are also available.

There is also a comprehensive range of ex-proof signal products compliant with the latest ATEX directives.

The full range of products can be found on www.werma.co.uk where an Eshop facility is available for all major credit cards.

All WERMA products are manufactured to strictly controlled quality standards (DIN EN ISO 9001:2000).
