West Control Solutions has launched the PMA Relay range of thyristor power controllers. The controllers are designed to be easy to configure and to reduce wiring and associated labour time.

According to the company, the modular controllers are offered in a variety of sizes to meet every requirement.

In addition, their compact size means they can require up to 50 per cent less cabinet space than other controllers.

Key features and benefits

Modular format

  • The modular format means that customers only need to pay for the units required.
  • Whether the process load is constant or variable resistance, inductive or transformer coupled, single or three phase, there is a thyristor power controller to meet the user’s requirements.
  • The thyristor units start at 3A and come in a range of sizes up to 2,600A and 690VAC.

Straightforward configuration

  • Configuration of the PMA Relay range has been specifically designed to make the controllers quick and easy to get up and running.
  • The controllers provide a frontal keypad for configuration and to read V, I and Power, enabling the units to be set up in situ.
  • The range is also compatible with RS 486 communications and has a USB port to simplify the setup of multiple controllers.

Compact design

  • The slim, compact controllers of the PMA Relay range are DIN-rail mounted and offer a self-contained, all-in-one solution with solid-state relays, controllers and fuses.
  • This compact design requires as little as half the space as that used by traditional systems.
  • The simple design also allows for easy maintenance, meaning the thyristor units can even be replaced by untrained personnel.

West Control Solutions specialises in the manufacture of temperature and process control instrumentation. Through four leading product brands CAL, West, PMA and Partlow West Control Solutions has more than 100 years’ experience designing innovative and reliable temperature control products.

Key products from West Control Solution include:

  • Temperature controllers (single-loop and multi-loop contollers)
  • Process controllers
  • Limit devices
  • Profilers and programmers
  • Digital indicators
  • Transmitters
  • Circular chart recorders (analogue and digital)
  • Paperless chart recorders

Controllers are available in 1/32, 1/16, 1/8 and 1/4 DIN sizes. There are also a number of DIN-rail-mounted controllers available. At the heart of all product designs from West Control Solutions is exact, accurate temperature control in easy-to-use products complemented with excellent reliability and durability.

West Control Solutions works with a global base of equipment manufacturers and end users. The products are ideally suited to challenging and tough environments such as industrial ovens, furnaces and kilns, plastics and extrusion. As the products offer excellent levels of precise control and accuracy together with being attractive instruments with strong aesthetic consideration during design they are often commonly used in laboratory, testing equipment and food and beverage applications.

The products are supported by a dedicated team of technical support specialists. The team has more than 25 years’ experience in temperature control instrumentation, specifically supporting products in industrial applications. This knowledge provides customers with complete peace of mind that they will be able to maximise the functionality available within the products even for the most complex of applications.

In addition to the core product offering there is also a customisation team that is available for those occasions where a custom controller will fit your requirements better than a standard product. In these cases, a comprehensive specification will be created, considering all requirements relating to the look and feel of the instrument, the format and functionality that is required. For the majority of customisation projects either a standard controller or a previous custom design can be used as the starting point for the bespoke design. This allows customers to benefit from reduced design and manufacturing costs, resulting in more customers to gain competitive advantage through unique designs and advanced functionality.
