The introduction of the Monster Mill solid carbide end mill range from WNT (UK) is designed to bring productivity advantages to companies machining steel components.

Using the latest in carbide and coating technology, Monster Mill is claimed to provide extended tool life and improve productivity.

While suited to the roughing of stainless steel due to its ICR (inox cutter for roughing) design, the Monster Mill is also capable of general purpose machining of general steels up to tool steels, cast iron, copper and copper alloys, tungsten, molybdenum, titanium and titanium alloys, nickel alloys, high heat-resisting steels and for hard machining up to 60 HRC.

The Monster Mill is able to achieve metal removal rates as high as 700cm3/min when machining material with a tensile strength of up to 300N/mm2.

These characteristics are achieved through the combination of the latest nanolayer Ti1500 PVD coating technology combined with the K30F grade tungsten carbide core.

The gold-coloured Ti1500 coating has a hardness of 3,400 HV and is between two and three micron thick.

The result is a high resistance to abrasion along with an ability to operate at temperatures up to 900C.

Further aiding extended tool life is the coating’s low friction value against steel of 0.7.

By using the K30F carbide grade, the Monster Mill has a high resistance to bending to ensure a stable cutting action.

Cooling of the cutting area is provided either by external coolant/air blast or customers have the option of specifying, as standard, cutters with a through tool coolant supply.

The latter ensures that optimum cooling and swarf evacuation takes place.

With guaranteed delivery before 10:30, six days a week, for any cutting tools ordered before 18:30 the previous working day (12:30 Saturday), combined with industry-leading technical and customer support, WNT (UK) is the first-choice cutting-tool supplier for the SME engineering manufacturing sector.
