WNT is to introduce the Master-Mill A2780 and A2790 milling systems at the Mach 2010 event.

With eight usable edges per insert the A2780 milling inserts are helping to drive down the cost per edge for high-performance 45-deg approach milling applications.

With a 15mm edge length these square inserts are capable of feeding at up to 0.45mm/tooth at depths of cut of up to 6mm thanks to the insert and seat design that generate a soft cutting action.

This soft cutting action with its low power requirement also makes the Master-Mill A2780 inserts ideal for lower-powered, lighter machining centres.

This combination of insert and cutter body geometry is said to enable maximum productivity while protecting the machine spindle from vibration and shock during the cutting process.

Similarly, the extremely positive edge geometry and chipbreaker designs of the A2790 inserts, with their six usable edges, also reduce the stress on the machine spindle while ensuring maximum productivity.

Feed rates of up to 0.4mm/tooth and 4mm depth of cut are achievable, while another feature of the inserts is the ability to index the cutting edge without completely removing the retaining screw, saving both time and the possibility of losing the screw.

The ability to have six and eight usable edges on each insert is also said to be a benefit to WNT’s customers as the cost per edge is reduced.

Inserts for both systems are available in four grades, including three of the new WNT Dragonskin grades, HCN 1235 for general purpose machining of steel, HCN 2235 for stainless steel, CWX 3215 for high-speed machining of cast iron and the CWX 1225 for high-speed machining of steel.

Users of the Master-Mill system will also benefit from the fact that the cutter body is treated with WNT’s Highlight coating that protects the body from excessive wear.

Through tool coolant is also a standard feature that ensures optimum swarf evacuation and lubrication at the cutting edge to maximise cutting edge life.
